Mark Cascio on Postseason Program Evaluations
This week on A Quick Timeout podcast, Coach Marck Cascio shares Xs&Os observations from the men's and women's college basketball tournament as well as provides a checklist for postseason evaluations for coaches as they wrap up the season that was.
Q: What were some of most helpful processes you went through when conducting your postseason evaluations?
Cascio: The first thing that I did was something I got from Mike Neighbors. It’s an A to Z checklist that goes from what we run offensively all the way to our bench decorum. Even just reflecting on those things will give you good ideas. I would also send that checklist to all our coaches. We did a “Start, Stop, Keep” for each of those categories.
The second thing we did was send a Google form to our players. I’m a firm believer you should meet with each of your players once a month. Our March meeting was devoted to wrapping up the past season. We waited on talking about the future. I’d ask things like, “What’s the best part of being coached by me?” then I’d ask, “What’s the most challenging part of being coached by me?”
