What’s your plan to finish strong this hoops season? The postseason will be here before you know it. In this week’s AQTO+ edition, Radius Athletics’ Randy Sherman provides some insights for maximizing the last several weeks of your 2024-2025 basketball season.
Q: Here at the midway point of the season, how should coaches evaluate their teams in order to maximize the remainder of their seasons?
Sherman: In my time working with coaches, I have a lot of coaches who I’ve worked with in my RAMP program who tell me, “Ok, now that we’ve gotten to this point, we’re really going to focus in on an area or two and improve.” The problem is that metrics show teams just don’t see significant improvement the last half of the season. By now, you should know what you are and what you aren’t. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t fight for improvement. I’d encourage coaches to lean more into the things you are good at. For instance, if you aren’t a great free throw shooting team, but you are a good pressing team, work more on pressing. Offset your weaknesses by doubling down on your strengths.
