For years, Coach Lennie Acuff has been at the forefront of modern offensive trends. This week, I share my notes from several of his clinic sessions, including “nuggets” for improved individual and team offense, 5-Out actions for early offense, and additional resources from Coach Acuff.
“Nuggets” for Offense
Be really good at the things that happen most in games.
Define what a “good possession” is. For us, it’s something that ends in a lay-up, high percentage 3PA. straight-line drive, or a drawn foul.
Teach players to not pick up their dribble unless there’s a pass or a shot.
Instead of “catch then go” (i.e., catching a pass then dribbling), “go then catch.” Especially against gap and Pack Line defenses, defenders don’t have enough time to get into the gaps.
