Slappin’ Glass’ Dan Krikorian on Euro Ball Screen Offense
This week on A Quick Timeout podcast, Slappin’ Glass’ Dan Krikorian breaks down Euro Ball Screen Offense and shares some of his best actions for the offense. Be sure to watch the film breakdown too!
Q: Why run Euro flow offense, and what have you learned teaching the offense?
Krikorian: When you put in the offense, as a coach, you feel a little sense of control, even though that’s not the right word. There’s a flow to it. Players know where they’re going. They know where they’re cutting. It’s a beautiful looking offense. As a coach, it’s almost like a safety blanket of knowing the offense looks organized. But the downside is that players can get too robotic. Players can sometimes run the offense just to run the offense. Sometimes, they don’t look for the advantages created and then don’t learn how to play out of those advantages. You as a coach have to learn how to teach the when and how to attack and use an advantage and also how to play out of that.

Play of the Week: UNC’s Empty Side PNR
One of the most popular actions in this year’s NCAA Tournament has been the empty side pick-and-roll (from the aforementioned Euro Ball Screen Offense). Teams have gotten to that action in a variety of ways. I like what the North Carolina Tarheels did using a 3-man action with RJ Davis, Armando Bacot and Cormac Ryan.
Ryan would backscreen for Bacot who had the choice either to dive to the block (Frame 2) or run to the wing for that empty side PNR with Davis (Frame 1).
