Developing Frontcourt Players into Game Changers, April Schilling, WNBA
This week on A Quick Timeout podcast, WNBA coach, April Schilling, breaks down skills and drills for turning frontcourt players into game changers.
Q: How should we balance the skills our frontcourt players need to play in the modern game - shooting, perimeter skills, spacing - verses the traditional post player skills?
Schilling: Depending on your roster, advantages and disadvantages created by your system - what is going to help the team win? Every roster is different, and the natural skillset of players are different. Still, we mix in a variety of things based on the spots and situations they’re in on the court during a possession. Our job is to help give them the edge during gameplay.

Play of the Week: Golden State Warriors SLOB
I suggest looking for OOB’s that give you more than one scoring look. Special situations can be the difference down the stretch. Take advantage of the opportunities! Here’s one of those plays from the Warriors.

SSG of the Week: 1v1v1 Competitive Finishing
It’s wild. It’s aggressive. It’s fun. It’s something we only do every now and then to spice things up.
Split into 3 teams (one line in each short corner, one at the nail). The coach tosses ball to start, then it’s live 1v1v1. On a make, the next player on that team steps on to play. When a team makes it through all players in line, that team wins.
