Q: What’s one big takeaway coaches will get from this book?
Nerbun: If you truly care about your athletes, you won’t build walls with their parents. Instead, you’ll engage the parents.
The mental health stuff is a big issue right now. There isn’t a week that goes by where one of the coaches I’m working with doesn’t have a player who has serious issues. I don’t think we as coaches can fully support our student-athletes in their mental health issues or in their growth as people if we don’t engage the most important person in their life. If we build walls, do we really care?
