Want a simple, inexpensive way to continue to grow as a basketball coach? A Quick Timeout+ newsletter’s weekly basketball coaching resources will do just that! For only $5/month (or $45/year - 25% off!), you’ll get access to Xs & Os breakdowns, film edits, skill development ideas, exclusive coach interviews, and more. Don’t put it off any longer!

Over the last 3-4 years, we’ve gotten a chance to see the wizardry of Hurley’s Xs&Os. (I even wrote about it a couple years ago - “Did You Hear Dan Hurley on JJ Redick's Podcast?”)

Sometimes, you watch and can’t even keep up with all the simultaneous movement happening.

But the Huskies also find success in simplicity, which is what I’m sharing this week - just a few of my favorite, basic ATOs from UConn’s playbook.

Double Ram

We usually see ram screens (i.e., screening for the screener) in high ball screen sets. In this action, UConn uses its big man to screen for a passer (Figure 1). The big will then screen again for a guard and immediately post at the front of the rim to receive a pass from the guard (Figure 2).
