There weren’t many possessions of zone defense this past NCAA Tournament; however, when zones have been used, they’ve been effective at stealing possessions. Be prepared for those strategy shifts without having to call a timeout with a few quick calls. Here are four that I’ve liked…

Stanford Cardinal’s Shallow to Double Pin In

I’ve said before that you can do a lot out of the the 3-Out, 2-In alignment. Shallow cuts are also great because they move those top to defenders, which opens up the middle of the zone. In this set, use the shallow action as some false movement then relay the ball to the opposite wing. With the zone’s attention shifted the left side of the floor, the 2 flares off a screen from 1 and 4 screens behind x4. Throw it over the top for an open 3PA for 2.
