The longer I coach conceptual offense, the more I’m convinced the way you start a possession shaped (or aligned) determines the effectiveness of the flow of your offense in that possession. In other words, if you want fewer turnovers, better spacing throughout the possession, and in the end, higher percentage shots, then start the possession with good alignment.
Most of you are running some form of 4-out, 1-in or 5-Out. What you see below in the FastModel FastDraw diagram obviously doesn’t resemble either of those offenses; however, the Coach Doug Novak’s “button hook” is a great option for getting into your regular offense’s shape.
