2v2 & 3v3 Veer Action
This week, I talked with a coach about building out his conceptual offense with additional actions. One that’s sometimes overlooked is Veer. If the drive gets stopped on his drive through the elbow, instead of pickup his dribble or bouncing out, the ballhandler can veer to the wing. You empty the corner out and send 2 on a cut to the opposite corner to give 1 space to make a play, or you could flash the big to the post to create a post entry with split action.
Set things up with this 2v2 game (Frame 1) then progress to 3v3 (Frame 2) or even 4v4 with a post player.

While the basketball season may not start anytime soon, my goal is to give you resources now that you can use on day 1 of your practices. That’s how important I (and more and more coaches I talk to) think special situations (i.e., end-of-quarter/half, late game, OOBs) are to success of your team this season.
