In line with this week’s theme of zone offense, here’s a quick hitter the Zags used in the NCAA Tournament against Oregon State's zone. I like this play because it incorporates screening the zone as well as shifting the zone to create openings for scoring.
Drill of the Week: Closeout Shooting
Obviously, it makes beating zones a whole lot easier when you have players who can knock down shots. Here’s a drill you can use in your small group workouts this offseason to simulate the game-like scenario of a defender closing out on a shooter. We like to drill it with our Dr. Dish, but even if you don’t own a shooting machine, it still can work. I call this simply, “Closeout Shooting.”
